About us

The Department of Molecular Medicine was established on July 1, 2010 (D.R. 326 of 30/04/2010).

As of November 1, 2018, following the reorganization process that involved part of the teaching staff from the Department of Cellular Biotechnologies and Hematology, it comprises more than 70 faculty members. These are joined by research fellows, scholarship holders, PhD students, residents, and trainee students, bringing together interdisciplinary cultural and technological expertise in emerging biomedical fields such as molecular medicine, medical nanobiotechnologies, bioethics, and the history of medicine.

The common denominator of the Department's research activities is the integration of basic and translational research aimed at understanding and identifying, at the molecular level, the pathogenic mechanisms underlying genetic, infectious, chronic-degenerative diseases, and immunopathies. The ultimate goal is to develop increasingly targeted and innovative diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic tools.

Numerous research lines are carried out in the field of oncology, focusing primarily on studying the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neoplastic processes and understanding the role of the host's immune and inflammatory response in controlling tumor onset, growth, and metastatic spread.
