Departments were established by D.P.R. n. 382/80 as organizations encompassing one or more research sectors with homogeneous purposes or methods; the same D.P.R. identified their governing bodies.
This section of the website outlines the governance structure of the Department. The Department is led by the Director, who legally represents the entity and ensures its autonomy and cultural unity.
To fulfill its institutional tasks, the Department is equipped with organizational and administrative autonomy concerning all spending measures, contractual, and conventional arrangements directly related to it, with both public and private entities. This autonomy operates within the limits of current legislative discipline, excluding administrative measures of a general nature or concerning matters reserved for other bodies as identified by Sapienza's Statute.
The governing bodies of the Department are: Director, Department Council, and Executive Committee. The Department Director is supported in managing its activities by the Administrative Manager Delegate, who is responsible for the Administrative Secretariat and coordinates administrative-accounting activities, assuming shared responsibility with the Director for related actions.
